Over the past 18 years Samuel has made a regular ‘pilgrimage’ to the annual 'Circuits Des Remparts’ Historic car racing festival in the beautiful city of Angouleme. 

 

During the last few trips Samuel has been delighted to discover the joys of ‘Chez Paul’. Situated in a small square, the restaurant looks small from the outside, but is huge (Seating around 150 people) and very, very busy! It has two levels and a huge terrace at the back with an ornamental ‘river' running through it, it’s a very pleasant place to be.

 

It has a very good reputation and deservedly so! Whenever anyone mentions dining in Angouleme, Chez Paul is always the first suggestion. As Samuel sat down the last time he visited, he got a message from a friend on Facebook, advising him to try it! 

 

The service is very good, brisk and efficient. We were sat down very quickly and handed an extensive menu. 

 

Samuel chose one of his favourite starters, a plate of Oysters, which were absolutely superb, especially with a cold glass of Muscadet. This was quickly followed by perfectly cooked 'Magret De Canard’ (Breast of Duck) on a bed of fluffy roast potatoes accompanied by a light delicious sauce. The meal was rounded off with another one of his favourites; ‘Creme Brulée’ which was the perfect end to a marvellous meal. 

 

Samuel’s companions chose roast salmon and ‘Confit de Canard’ (Leg of Duck cooked in it’s own fat) and both were declared to be excellent. They finished with crepes which gave Samuel a dose of ‘food envy’. 

 

A great meal in a great place, can’t wait to go back!
