Not only is Wentworth a beautiful and historic village, it also happens to boast two excellent pubs, both offering great beers and fabulous food.
The 17th Century building has been an Inn since 1804. ‘The George’ as it is locally known, is very popular with locals and tourists alike. It is very popular, offering a great selection of well-kept Ales and Ciders and is renowned for its food. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
The entrance room is split-level, with the main elevated Dining area on the left. At the right-hand side, a corridor leads to the ’snug’ which has a log fire throughout the winter. There is also a small side room and a further Dining room upstairs. Spread throughout the bars are various photographs and paintings of the estate, along with some interesting architectural features in the pub itself. It has very welcoming atmosphere, it’s always ‘buzzing’ with lots of people having a good time and it’s also dog-friendly.
Samuel has been to the ‘George’ for food many times over the years and it has always been excellent, it has never failed to impress. It has a comprehensive menu, is highly recommended for Sunday lunch and the gourmet food served at night is exceptional. The Alioli Arancini Mrs Peeps had the last time is still fondly talked about!
It’s a great place in which to end a long hearty walk in and around the village, grab a refreshing drink and a hearty sandwich.
