Situated in St Julians, looking across Spinola Bay, Manakis is a genuine Greek Taverna and is a real find.

Asking about the best restaurants around Sliema, Samuel was recommended Manakis and what a great tip! Samuel visited with friends in October 2019. It’s a very busy restaurant on two floors with a beautiful terrace overlooking Spinola Bay. Tables are in high demand so you would normally need to book. We arrived early, after an afternoon wander around the local hostelries (6pm) and were allowed a table on the terrace, as long as we vacated it before the next booking, more than fair.

The service was very good, friendly and efficient. We were sat down and quickly supplied with glasses of delicious red wine, along with cold glasses of the excellent local brew; Farsons Blue Label Bitter.

We began with two bowls of starters between the three of us, ‘Taramoslata' and 'Traditional Tzatziki’ along with a bowl of local ‘Ftira’ bread, and all three were superb! Luckily we had only ordered two bowls, they were very filling!

Samuel’s friends ordered Sea Bass  and 'Chicken Souvlaki’ (chicken thighs marinated in yoghurt and coriander, served with Tahini sauce), both looked fabulous and were declared to be excellent.

Whenever anyone mentions Manakis they immediately ask ‘Have you tried the Moussaka?’ Having taken the recommendation, Samuel can see why, it is one of the best he has ever tasted, absolutely delicious and incredibly tasty.

The only downside to the meal was that we were too full to try the desserts… They would have no doubt been superb.

Samuel will definitely be back! Highly recommended!
