Situated in the Courtyard at Monte Duquesa, this restaurant is a hidden gem. We visited it in only it's second week of opening, if the quality of food, wine and service is maintained, the proprietors deserve every success!
The inside and outside of the restaurant are bright and attractive and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Although it was a Monday night, there was a constant stream of fellow diners, I would certainly book in advance to ensure that you get a table.
'Montes' offer a small range of 'nibbles' to begin with, we opted for the hummus with warm pitta, it was delicious and plentiful for three people.
The starters came very quickly after. My friends opted for a special of forest mushrooms on toasted bread (with bacon) and a selection of four empanadas, both were very happy and very impressed. My sizzling 'Montes' Prawns Pil Pil was also delicious, as was the home-made bread it was served with.
For the main course, my friends opted for selections off of the regular menu, while I went for one off of the specials board.
My friends both raved about their respective choices (Chicken fillets and Tuna steak). My 'milk-fed' lamb chops' were fabulous, so much so I didn't bother asking for any mint sauce... The side dishes of Dauphinoise potatoes, cauliflower cheese and mixed vegetables were also excellent.
The only problem we had was being so full that none of us could manage a dessert!
Highly recommended, I will be going back!
Samuel's house guests wanted to go to Montes again for their last night in Spain, we had another excellent evening!
First of all, we tried a few of the starters from the 'Specials' board, the King Prawn Thermidor was delicious, as was the grilled Watermelon and Ham.
For the main course, a couple of us chose steak and thought it was superb, great quality and perfectly cooked. Samuel chose lamb again, this time a milk-fed leg baked in Rosemary, Sherry, Mint, garlic and Wholegrain Mustard, it was stunning! Another friend chose BBQ duck breast with Massaman sauce, it was huge and delicious.
Tiramisu for dessert was a great way to end the meal!
Samuel and his friends visited Montes June 2017.
