Get ready for Cropredy!

Tickets have just gone on sale for the 2019 Fairport Cropredy Convention. It's a brilliant event, highly recommended, you can buy tickets here .

My 'secret obsession' is the music of of Jethro Tull, a great band who recently celebrated 50 years of excellent music. I was first introduced to them in the early 80s and their "Best of' (borrowed from Sheffield Library) almost wore my Walkman out....In 2019 Martin Barre and his Band will play his favourites, I can't wait!

In September 1987, they Jethro Tull were due to launch their first album for three years; 'Crest of a Knave'. Before this, Ian Anderson and Martin Barre were going to be guests at their Bass player's other band's Festival at Cropredy, I just had to go.

What an excellent event it turned out to be, there was a great line-up and I also got to see Stan Webb's Chicken Shack play an amazing set. The three members of Tull were predictably brilliant and I was really impressed with Fairport Convention.

As well as the great music, there was a brilliant atmosphere with no trouble and no idiots. I will always remember seeing families dancing and singing across the field, a really lovely thing to see. The beer was from Wadworths and was excellent, as was the food around the Festival site, the Tempura from the Japanese stand being a particular favourite.

I have been going to Cropredy Festival on-and-off and had a brilliant time, every time, despite the English weather doing its best to ruin things. I've seen some incredible Bands and singers there, including The Bootleg Beatles, Paul Carrack, Madness, The Australian Pink Floyd, Madness, Chas & Dave, Toyah (she was brilliant), the Proclaimers, and even Alice Cooper! Two massive hits recently have been the Pierce Brothers and the wonderful 'Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican', both getting standing ovations.

For me it has become an annual pilgrimage, a great event shared with over 20k other enthusiasts, it really is the 'Friendliest Festival in the world'.

It's also a chance to spend three days of quality time with my Dad, what could be better?
