Local Estate Agents Alan & Elaine created the Ivy Wine Bar from an empty double business unit in Alcaidesa’s central plaza; ‘Loma Del Rey’ .
Back in 2013 there were very few options for the local drinker; the local supermarket ‘bar’ and the beach bar opened sporadically and offered little for the discerning Customer. When offered the unit for their expanding business, they saw the opportunity to turn the rest of the unit into a bar, rather than reviving the over-expanded and soulless recently-closed ‘Dragonfly’ bar. They updated the interior, adding a large bar, built new cooking facilities and developed the interior, adding lots of large flat-screen TV sets offering the latest sports.
Unofficially launched on New Years Eve, the bar became instantly popular, offering a relaxed and attractive atmosphere, along with ice cold Beer, excellent home-cooked food, staffed by a great team. They are renowned locally (by both ex-pats and Spanish locals), for their fabulous Argentinian Steaks and Friday Night specials of Fish & Chips and Steak Pie.
Elsewhere on this site, Samuel has expounded about the importance of having a ‘local’. The Ivy Wine Bar quickly became one for Samuel and he spent many happy hours in the bar, enjoying the myriad Sports offered on TV, the great food and lively conversation, whilst making many life-long friends.
If you are on holiday, or live near Gibraltar and are looking for somewhere to enjoy excellent food and good old-fashioned hospitality, this is the place to go.
